The History
Dakoro Edwards discovered his creative spark at age 4 while drawing cartoons, and by age 6, he had developed the ability to slow down and notice subtle details—facial expressions, colors, and textures—that would shape his artistic vision in contemporary art. Raised in Syracuse, New York, his talent and curiosity were nurtured by supportive art teachers during his school years, who encouraged his unconventional and expressive approach.
He began painting steadily around age 5 and eventually moved to Sandy Springs (Atlanta), where his vibrant gallery debuted in 2016 at City Walk. There, his contemporary art—along with live performances—energized the area with positivity and connection. Dakoro’s dynamic process often includes large fluid strokes, vivid colors, and layered imagery, literally hiding people or objects in the abstract forms for viewers to discover.
When the pandemic closed his gallery, he pivoted to community engagement through “Draw with Dakoro,” virtual classes teaching thousands to express curiosity and embrace creativity. He continues to connect through live painting performances, exhibitions, and school outreach, making art a bridge between communities and imagination.
